To turn goals into results it is imperative to have an action plan or steps. If you don't have a plan to succeed that will make it difficult to reach goal success. Too many people know that he or she has a goal that they want to reach, but does not have a plan to get there.
Having a plan to reach your goals is like having a map to get you to your destination point. If a person plans a road trip, but does not have a map to help them reach their destination, he or she should not be surprised if they get lost or detoured. Many people may have become frustrated and discouraged because they set a goal, but didn't achieve it. This may be because he or she didn't have a plan to succeed.
It is not fair to you if you have goals, but never reach them. Before you know it day after day, month after month and year after year can pass by if you don't have a plan. Maybe you have even been excited when you initially thought about achieving your goal, you worked on it for a day or two, but then the excitement was gone. If that has happened to you then it is time to re-ignite your fire for achieving your goals and dreams. No longer should you think about making it happen, it is time for you to make it happen.
An empty goal is not serving you any good and neither is it serving anyone else any good. It is time for you to just step out in faith and make it happen. Below are simple, yet effective things that can help you turn your goals into results. There are many other things that you can do as well, but this will give you a jump-start.
1. Write your specific goal down.
Exactly what is it you want to achieve? This could be anything from losing 5 pounds to cleaning out your closet. Make sure your goal is realistic, measurable (you have to be able to see that you are making progress) and attainable (it has to be something that is within your control).
2. Answer the following questions (it may be more powerful to write your answers down).
How do you think you are going to feel when you reach this goal (excited, successful, happy etc.)?
What date would you like to have your goal achieved by (write a date and stick to it)?
What is the first thing that you can do to reach this goal?
What are the obstacles to your reaching your goal?
How will you conquer the obstacles?
Who will be your support (who can keep you accountable)?
3. Keep a weekly journal that will help you continue to take action and stay focused. In your weekly journal keep track of the next thing you will do to reach your goal. Keep your action plan documented weekly and stick to taking the steps until you have reached your goal. Contact your support person frequently to share wins and blocks, and if you get stuck.
