I was won over by the title, what a beautifully poetic title,
Poeticwisdom: the poetry was a gift, the wisdom had to be earned. As
the title implies, the wisdom that comes from the poetry we read,
write, memorize, and share, is hard earned with our experiences in
life. I could not wait to read the poems to see if they lived up this
title that calls one to the book, as a butterfly is drawn to the nectar
of a flower.
The preface is AWESOME…laying out the table of what will be available to us once we start indulging. You immediately get the sense that these poems are not to be rushed through, but to be enjoyed with your favorite Merlot, cup of java, or mug of chocolate. And, you will not be disappointed.
Get comfy in your baggies, grab your favorite drink, and get ready for the journey of a lifetime. The poems are heartfelt, warm, loving and funny. You get a glimpse of the author’s life, loves, traumas, and experiences, although it does not read like a memoir, it reads like life lessons to a listening audience.
In part 1, we are treated to a melody of the sounds and sights of New York, in all of its glorious contradictions. It is easy to see why the those who choose to live in the city have a love hate relationship. Katherine captures it with poetic beauty.
In part 2, we are delighted to find the poetic wisdom that guides the affairs of the heart. Here we learn of the Katherine’s loves, losses, fears, ideals, and beliefs. She, like most of us, is lucky and unlucky in love and she shares with a depth that is universal.
In part 3, we are graced with poetic wisdom…and that says it all. It is a chapter to be read and reread, for in each reading, there is a different meaning.
In part 4, we are given a glimpse into the poet’s evolving relationship with God, with such a fresh voice, a new perspective, it is not preachy at all, just a sharing of lessons learned, lessons to be learned and a relationship, voice, place, time, season to be celebrated. Here, Katherine allows us to glance at the very special bond she has developed with the Lord, her God.
Overall, Katherine Rodriguez has done an incredible job with few words…using a poetic prose, she shares her life in New York, lessons learned, and a very profound relationship she has carved with her Maker.
